1Problem

A small all-black label needs a site that feels like the brand, loads fast, and can be run by one person with no developer.

How might a store with almost no colour still feel distinctive and stay lightweight?

2Process

  • 2.1Start from the logoThe wordmark is "very" followed by a solid black redaction bar covering the second word.
  • 2.2Turn the logo into a systemThe redaction bar becomes the site's main interaction: hidden text that you reveal by hovering.
  • 2.3Curate tightly6 all-black pieces, sourced globally, chosen for quality, released in quarterly drops.
  • 2.4Keep it lightPerformance is a priority, so the concept relies on type and black bars instead of heavy media.

3Design

One component carries the whole brand: the redaction bar. It has three states, and every page uses the same one.

State 1HiddenA solid black bar sized to the hidden text. It says "there's more here" without saying what.
State 2RevealingOn hover or tap the bar slides away from left to right, like tape being pulled.
State 3RevealedThe text stays readable. Tapping again hides it, so touch screens work too.

Try it. Hover or tap a bar to reveal it.
